Working jointly as a group of designers, architects, and urban sociologists, ‘The Gutters are Filled with Gold’ visualises the practices of poor Berliners trying to make ends meet. It examines the coping strategies of these people collecting refundable bottles in public spaces, the regulations of their activities, and how they fit together within a larger context of increasing inequality.
This work was a collaboration with Jenny Baese, Nayeli Zimmermann, Hanna Hilbrandt, Fiona McDermott, Anna Richter, and Laura Colini.
In 2013, the project won second prize placing in the ARCH+ magazine competition ‘Out of Balance’, and has won the Independent category of the Deutsche Infografik Preis 2014.
