The Storied Landscape

This proposal for the New Zealand Guest of Honour Pavilion at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair creates a space for the dreams of the New Zealand landscape. It draws on traditions of Māori storytelling to express what New Zealand culture is: its people and places, its past, its present, and its future. The pavilion site is reconstructed to present a ‘physical mythology’ of the land of the long white cloud.

The pavilion attempts to surpass the traditional notion of storytelling through books and invites attendees to experience interactivity in the space that expands into web forums, social media, and even live video links to spaces in New Zealand. In this way it expands beyond the here and now to include other locations, performing worldwide.
